New Adoption, Foster Parenting Ministry Aims to Educate and Advocate for Children

Chosen Inc. seeks to correct misperceptions about adoption and foster parenting, and open multi-family foster home to help as many children as possible.
WAUKESHA, Wis. - April 28, 2016 - PRLog -- Following their own life experiences chronicled in an emotional, soul-rending book, a Waukesha couple and their family have launched a new ministry aimed at educating the public about the impact of adoption and fostering, and providing financial, emotional, spiritual and material support to forever families who have chosen these oft-misunderstood family building journeys.

Chosen Inc. has already partnered with other organizations on outreach about adoption and foster parenting; its primary educational focus is to show the positive impact of fostering and adoption for children and families. With a long-term mission to provide a home for children who do not have one, Chosen's ultimate plan is to open a multiple-family foster home to help as many as possible. In the near future, a sharing room will be opened, providing material needs to foster or adoptive families as children are placed with them.

Tom and Karen Schlindwein became adoptive parents in 1991 following a heartbreaking battle with infertility. Every year after the births of their son, Joe, and daughter, Amalie, the couple wrote to their children's birthmothers. The annual letters described the kids' experiences, accomplishments, and the love that permeated the family.

Those letters, and accompanying narrative from Karen and Amalie (with input from their family, Amalie's biological family and her husband, Jason Bowling), form the content of "Dear Lois: Our Adoption Journey," published in 2015 by WestBow Press. Book proceeds help fund Chosen Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded by Amalie and Jason Bowling, who have since begun their family through fostering and hope to impact the lives of many children in the future.

The mother/daughter author team has presented to churches, support groups, and adoption-related organizations. They are seeking additional book signing and/or speaking engagements to present on the topics of infertility, adoption, fostering and their personal journeys of faith and hope amid struggle.

"The underlying goal of Chosen is to show Christ's love in a practical way to children, families, and communities. We aspire to open people's eyes to the wonderment and life-changing beauty of adoption and fostering, for both children and adults," said Karen Schlindwein, who serves as the organization's Executive Director for Education. "Chosen is an adoption and fostering ministry that hopes to impact the lives of many families and children."
