Bedrock Control System Wins 2015 Breakthrough Product Award from Processing Magazine

By: PRLog
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Dec. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Processing magazine has named Bedrock Automation’s BedrockTM industrial control system (ICS) as a Breakthrough Product of 2015. Processing recognized Bedrock for its unique architecture, including a pinless electromagnetic backplane that removes key points of cyber security vulnerability while also offering dramatic improvements in processing power and ease of use.

“The process industries are under increasing assault from malicious code and unwelcome intrusion, yet the SCADA RTUs, DCSs and PLCs that control production are based on technology developed before cyber threats became common. Bedrock has built a universal control system from the silicon up, which represents a significant breakthrough that will impact the process industries for years to come,” said Kevin Parker, Processing magazine Editor-in-Chief.

Bedrock™ addresses virtually all control applications with fewer than a dozen part numbers, reducing cyber attack vectors, cutting lifecycle costs, and simplifying engineering, commissioning and maintenance. It delivers I/O, power and communications across a pin-less electromagnetic backplane with a parallel architecture that supports ultra fast scan times regardless of I/O count. Removing I/O pins improves reliability and increases cyber security while forming a galvanic isolation barrier for every I/O channel. This massively innovative backplane also allows installation of I/O modules in any orientation and location for unprecedented flexibility in I/O and cable management.

Secure I/O modules use layers of advanced technology to deliver software-defined I/O for universal analog, discrete, Ethernet and Fieldbus signal types. A secure power module is functionally and physically coupled to the backplane to deliver single and dual redundant cyber secure power for the control system. A secure universal controller is so powerful it can run virtually every conceivable application independent of size or control task: discrete, batch, continuous, or multivariable control from one device that supports as few as ten, to as many as thousands of I/O points.

We are deeply committed to advancing ICS cyber security (http://www.bedrockautomation.com/) as well to improving control system performance, scalability and economy. It means a great deal to us that a magazine of Processing’s stature has selected our revolutionary control system for this prestigious award,” said Bedrock Automation President, Bob Honor.

Processing (http://www.processingmagazine.com) magazine’s more than 70,000 subscribers are engineers, plant-operations and managers in the worldwide process industries, including the chemical, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. They instituted the Breakthrough Product awards to recognize each year’s most promising equipment, devices and other solutions for improving industrial productivity and sustaining infrastructure in process operations.
