Bikeportal’s Test-Drive Review of the KTM RC 200

By: Get News
BikePortal recently test-drove the agile RC 200 from KTM and here are some excerpts from the test-drive report. Being marked as yet another stellar performer from KTM-Bajaj, ‘KTM RC 200’ is not just a rugged looking sporty bike, but it has on offing serious riding capability that puts it in forefront with other performance oriented motorcycles around.

Scoring well on the design front, it borrows cues from elder sibling RC8, although nothing concrete but there is something that reminds of the latter. The tinge of orange used evidently on the body adds to the vibrant nature of the bike. The bike looks as interesting from rear as it looks from front. Overall, the design is sleek and lean unlike other bulky bikes rivalling RC 200. From the expert’s point of view, KTM RC 200 strikes a perfect balance between power and weight which in turn lends it flexibility and agility.

Rider seat and suspension are stiff, while the pillion’s seat is relatively comfortable. To put it more clearly, comfort has been compromised over speed, hence making it a viable option for track-use instead of traffic. Power is drawn from the same engine that serves in the 200 Duke, the 199cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, electronically fuel injected four stroke engine engendering top power of 25.3 Bhp at 10,000 RPM along with 19.2 Nm of top torque at 8000 RPM. Top speed as assessed by the BikePortal expert is around 143 kmph which is slightly more than 200 Duke’s 136 kmph. Ride and handling is razor sharp and braking power is equally agile, but it could have been better if the bike featured anti-lock-braking system if not as a standard equipment but as an optional fare.

Having ridden the clever KTM RC 200 around, this is what BikePortal’s auto expert Prashant Singh has to say, “KTM RC 200 justifies its ‘Ready to Race’ philosophy and as a whole it is a brilliant performer on track. RC200 is ahead of its competition but carries subjective looks. It is a brilliant value for money proposition and at this price point I don’t think anything else comes close.”

Rivalling other popular bikes in its respective segment such as Pulsar RS200 and CBR 250R known for comfort and poise, KTM RC 200 is tailored for riders that are focused on ride quality and handling. Reasonably priced, KTM RC 200 is a brilliantly tagged motorcycle that is stylish, agile and sprints on the word go.
