Overlaminate film is a clear polypropylene or polyester film with a clear adhesive that is applied to printed labels to protect and strengthen them. This lamination layer increases the printed labels' resistance to water, chemicals, scratches, UV light, and oil, and it gives the labels a smooth, shiny surface.
According to Basat Khalifa from DuraFast Label Company, producers who use digital label presses to print their own labels are increasingly turning to sophisticated digital label finishing systems to laminate, cut, remove waste material, slit, and rewind the labels onto new cores for application. As the label roll is processed by the digital label finishing system, the overlamination film is applied. The overlaminate adheres to the labels, leaving a crystal clear protective coating on top.
