Citra Health Solutions Says the Focus of the Healthcare Industry Must Remain on the Patient
PRLog - June 29, 2015 - JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Supreme Court made the decision Thursday to uphold premium subsidies for Americans in all states. This decision settles an ongoing battle and allows companies like Citra Health Solutions to maintain their focus on delivering solutions for payers and providers caught in the shifting paradigm of accountable care. Built on these principles in 2012, Citra has seen significant growth and acquired a healthcare technology firm that now offers an integrated population health, analytics and care management system.

In siding with the Administration and more than 7.5 million citizens receiving subsidies from the federal government in support of healthcare provisions, the Supreme Court brings stability to the Affordable Care Act.  The majority concluded that the provision at issue (Federal funding applied to all marketplaces setup by states or otherwise) is clear, though not immediately obvious in its original wording.  This ruling will most likely complicate efforts by future administrations to modify the availability of subsidies through interpretation and therefore allow further implementation of the law.

At hand in this argument is the need for clarity for 34 states with exchanges that currently receive subsidies from the federal government. The law was written to support state-based exchanges, and with this ruling, the federal government can support exchanges not currently managed by states. “Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court’s majority in King.

As CEO & Founder for Citra Health Solutions, Howard Buff commented on the ruling’s majority. “The ruling applies structure to the law’s perceived obscurities and allows for this legislation to take a position essentially similar to Medicare and Medicaid – crucial parts of how our society cares for the underserved and underinsured, which is the ultimate goal.” When asked how the ruling affects Citra, Howard commented, “If the pool of patients currently receiving benefits in the forms of insurance subsidies receive care via appropriate means in appropriate venues, we all win.” He was clear that the win is far reaching by saying, “The bottom line is that we are doing our part to facilitate change when Citra helps providers, payers and patients work more seamlessly together to improve outcomes clinically and financially.”
