Lower close as Greece makes interest payment

The markets closed lower with Dow losing 36 points to 18,068 as Greece made an interest payment on its debt. Nasdaq fell 17 points to 4,976.

On the upside

Ocean Rig UDW (Nasdaq: ORIG) reversed year ago losses to post a greater than expected profit for the first quarter as revenue climbed.

SciClone Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: SCLN) reported sharply higher first quarter earnings that nearly doubled as revenue soared.

Armistice Capital acquired a 5.4% stake in Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: SPPI) and has asked that the company sell itself.

On the downside

American Public Education (Nasdaq: APEI) disappointed with lower first quarter earnings and revenue.

Orexigen Therapeutics (Nasdaq: OREX) and Takeda Pharmaceuticals terminated the cardiovascular outcomes trial for the obesity treatment Contrave.

MasTec (NYSE: MTZ) fell to a greater than expected loss for the first quarter and forecast current quarter and full year results below estimates.

In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 5 to 4 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 lost 6 points to 2099. Bitcoin held steady at $241.
