This Second Vampire Book Series from Author Erika Trevathan Capitalizes on the Provocative Allure of Ancient Vampire Worlds
PRLog - March 5, 2015 - LOS ANGELES -- Combining elements of paranormal romance and mystery, author Erika Trevathan offers readers the sensuous and alluring story of a young woman who finds herself drawn to her stunning, enigmatic neighbor. COMPELLED TO CRAVE is set in current day New Orleans; however, the author takes full advantage of the historical architecture of the town and the tradition of witchcraft and voodoo in telling the story of twenty-one-year old Madelyn Brantley’s volatile relationship with the handsome and domineering Dristan St. Julien.

When Madelyn stumbles into the dark, dense woods behind her family’s planation home in search of her new puppy that has absconded from the safety of the house, she suddenly finds herself staring into the piercing green eyes of Dristan St. Julien. Initially, the stranger introduces himself only as her new neighbor while escorting her back to her home. It turns out that Madelyn’s handsome neighbor not only neglected to tell her his name, but he also failed to inform her of the mysterious evil he’d rescued her from in the woods.

As Madelyn goes through the motions of her postcollege life, which includes living at home with her parents and working as an assistant in a branch of the local library—both consequences of a failing economy—she becomes preoccupied with Dristan and also with the young author of the journal she discovered in the secluded room she moved into after returning home. The journal belonged to a young girl who was desperately in love and just so happened to have the same last name as Dristan.

After a number of encounters with Dristan during which their mutual attraction for each other rushes to the surface, Madelyn becomes ill. When she recovers, Dristan reveals that he restored her failing health by feeding her his own blood. Frightened and confused, Madelyn runs from Dristan, but quickly learns that her cravings for his feedings, as well as her overwhelming desire for him, make it impossible for her to stay away. The decisions Madelyn makes as she learns more about Dristan’s connection to the girl who once lived in her house and the life she will lead as a dependent of a vampire, have consequences that infinitely shape her future.

“The Compelled series came about from my desire for a vampire romance that intermingled mystery and the past,” Trevathan notes. “I enjoy stepping out of the reality of ‘our world’ and into the supernatural. I have always been drawn to books with paranormal characters, especially vampires. To me, vampires epitomize beings that are led by need, desperation, and instinct. At the same time, they are romanticized as being extremely powerful, which, in romance novels, makes them the perfect alpha male.”

Trevathan reveals that the primary characters in COMPELLED TO CRAVE will show up in future storylines in the Compelled series, as well as in her Crimson Bond series - due to Dristan’s membership in the Regency, a group of the most ancient vampires in existence, and the ruling body of the vampire world in both series. “While my books are fantasy-oriented, the characters integrate themselves so completely into everyday society that they are not suspected of being extraordinary. The characters essentially have a foot in both worlds, thus allowing readers to immerse themselves in the believability of the story,” Trevathan states. “There is a strong supporting cast to draw on that provides endless potential.”

About the Author

Erika Trevathan is the author of the bestselling vampire romance series, Crimson Bond. Formerly an emergency room nurse, Erika became drawn to the paranormal romance genre when she began reading vampire romance novels in her spare time. When she couldn’t find books in the genre that featured an alpha male, CEO-type (think Fifty Shades of Grey without the erotica), Erika decided it was time to start writing her own stories.

Erika loves creating and sharing her stories as much as she loves reading. “My favorite book, and the one that started my love of romance, was Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I believe that it made me preferential to witty conversation between characters…Thanks to Mr. Darcy, there is a little bit of gentleman in every one of my male protagonists.”

Erika resides in North Carolina with her husband and three daughters.
