PRLog - March 4, 2015 - HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Subaru of Hilton Head is thrilled to announce the arrival of the 2015 Subaru Outback, engineered with an integrated design based on aerospace research and technology.
Subaru was founded in 1953 as the automotive branch of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), which is deeply invested in the aerospace industry. Although FHI’s aerospace division involves production for Boeing, helicopters, aviation business jets, and industrial power products, they also work hand-in-hand with the Eco Technology Division, manufacturing industrial trucks, robotic machines, and wind turbines. But the technology coming out of the aerospace division isn’t limited to these industrial machines.
Much of the technology design of the new Outback engine comes from research conducted by FHI’s aerospace division. The 2015 Subaru Outback is equipped with a 2.5L SUBARU BOXER 4-cylinder DOHC aluminum-alloy, 16-valve engine with Dual Active Valve Control System and symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Outback’s horizontally opposed boxer engine applies FHI’s aerospace technology to maximize and enhance the system’s power flow, allowing the standard outfit to deliver an impressive 175 hp and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, and the available 3.6L DOHC engine to churn out 256 hp and 247 lb.-ft. of torque, at an astonishing efficiency of 33 hwy mpg.
Subaru is the largest producer of boxer engines, manufacturing multiple configurations to maximize the engine’s versatility. Subaru currently has 2.0L and 2.5L 4-cylinder, 3.6L 6-cylinder, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged, in production and is set to reach the 15 million mark this year.
FHI is currently working with Boeing to develop the next-generation 777X passenger jet, focusing on wing integration, landing systems, and forward wing-to-body fairings, and intends for the research to also be applied to Subaru’s automotive division to maximize the vehicle’s performance features.
