Honda to Launch New Alternative Fuel Options in 2018

By: PRLog
Bosak Honda Michigan City will have a new electric-battery car and a new plug-in hybrid by 2018.
PRLog - Jan. 26, 2015 - MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The 2015 North American International Auto Show was quite the event for the Honda brand, and while the FCV Concept stole the show, Honda had quite a few other announcements of vehicles that would be making their way to Bosak Honda Michigan City very soon.

While the fanfare and excitement around the FCV concept is certainly warranted, Honda announced two other alternative fuel options at the event that are a bit further off than their hydrogen fuel cell vehicle: a new electric car and a new plug-in hybrid.

Honda currently has one popular electric car—the Honda Fit EV—and one popular plug-in hybrid—the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in—so it was only a matter of time before they expanded their alternative fuel options even further. The specifics weren't released, but based on Honda's current hybrid options, critics are predicting that the new models will likely be of the small car variety.

As far as other noteworthy announcements at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Honda made one that should make the fuel-conscious driver and the amateur racer quite happy: they will be building turbocharged engines starting in 2015. While turbocharged powertrains have found their way onto all different kinds of vehicles lately, most fans are excited about the prospect of the Civic Type-R finally receiving a US release.

In the meantime, Honda still has plenty of alternative fuel options available, from the previously mentioned 2014 Accord Plug-in and Fit EV to the Civic Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, Insight, and CR-Z. There's even a Civic that runs entirely on natural gas for a cleaner burning engine.

And though it can be difficult to find a replacement for what a turbocharged engine brings to the table, Honda's Civic Si Sedan and Coupe models are sport-tuned and high-powered, and should do the trick until the turbocharged four-cylinder engines hit the street.
