PRLog - Jan. 13, 2015 - JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hendricks Day School, an acclaimed private school in Jacksonville, Florida, now offers the International Baccalaureate program of education. The school will be the first private school in Jacksonville to offer the program to local students.

Hendricks Day School, one of the top private schools in Jacksonville, Florida for the last 40 years, is now beginning the process to become an International Baccalaureate school. As one of the first private schools in Jacksonville to offer the program, Hendricks hopes to offer students a set of skills and critical thinking abilities unmatched by other local curriculums.

In many school settings, children spend the day passively taking in information. This is difficult for many children, as they naturally want to explore their environment. An international baccalaureate program emphasizes the need for children to express this natural curiosity. Students are encouraged to ask questions. This approach helps students to engage in the lesson and become active in the process of learning.

“Hendricks decided to become an IB school because the program so closely aligns with ours and will be a capstone for our wonderful existing programs, such as the STEAM lab, arts program, world languages, critical thinking, and goal to teach students how to think, not what to think,” says Dr. Linda Johnson, Head of School at Hendricks Day School.

The IB accreditation decision comes only months after Hendricks became one of the only schools in Jacksonville to open a full STEAM lab on campus. The STEAM lab allows children of all ages to understand scientific concepts through hands on experimentation and practice. This hands-on approach extends well beyond the STEAM lab to everyday classroom instruction.

“In the classroom, learning will become more student centered, cooperative and problem solving based,” says Johnson. With small class sizes and individualized instruction already present in each classroom, this approach will allow children greater freedom to pursue their academic interests.

Hendricks Day School prides itself on the quality of education, rather than the quantity of students.  With a core focus on how to think, rather than what to think, Hendricks reinforces the need for personalized and tailored education for the young mind.  To find out more about Hendricks Day School, or to schedule a visit to the school, visit them online at www.hendricksdayschool.org
