Houston based Emergency Medical Group, LLC operating as EliteCare Emergency Center (EMG) a 24 hour free standing emergency department in Rice Village, has been awarded damages of $1,769,675.37 from University General Hospital, LP (UGH) pursuant to a Final Judgment entered by the 165th Judicial District Court of Harris County on Monday afternoon. UGH is a subsidiary of University General Health Systems, Inc., a publicly held company.
PRLog - Dec. 19, 2014 - HOUSTON -- The damages were awarded as a result of EliteCare’s lawsuit against University General Hospital for failure to pay fees owed to Elite Care pursuant to a contract between the parties.  The Court’s Entry of Judgment is based on an October jury verdict in favor of Elite Care.

Tim Seay, MD, President of Emergency Medical Group was pleased with the judgment rendered by the Court which concluded three years of litigation on the matter.  “Our operations were adversely affected by the dishonorable conduct of the hospital and its officers,” Dr. Seay explained.  “We are pleased that the jury did not buy into the unsupported testimony of the Hospital’s President, Hassan Chahadeh and its Chief Financial Officer, Mike Griffin and we appreciate the work of the Court and jury.”

EliteCare was represented by Lori Hood and Tamara Madden of Johnson, Trent, West, & Taylor, LLP while the Defendant, University General Hospital was represented by Wade Howard of Liscow and Lewis.
