How Self-Learning Systems will make Your House Very Smart

The Smart Home with a hundred sentrollers that allow the residents to monitor and control the home environment We are living in a connected world, where much of the population has access to internet. The next step is the Smart Home that allows the residents to monitor and control the home environment with their smart phone. However, the real excitement will be the smart and intelligent home where the house is smart enough to learn how we want to live and then manage the environment to make our lives much more comfortable, safe and efficient.

Utrecht, The Netherlands – 21 October 2014 – GreenPeak Technologies, the industry leading Smart Home semi-conductor/systems company, has created a new white paper titled “After The Smart Phone: The Smart Home” that discusses and explores the importance of the smart phone and other web connected devices to the rapid emergence of the Smart Home.  The new white paper also includes a discussion of Family Lifestyle systems.

“We are living in a connected world – where much of the population has access to the internet via computers, tablets, games, entertainment and their smart phones,” says Cees Links, CEO of GreenPeak Technologies. “The next step is the Smart Home with a hundred sentrollers that allow the residents to monitor and control the home environment from anywhere with their smart phone. However, the real excitement will be the smart and intelligent home where the house is smart enough to learn how we want to live and then manage the environment to make our lives much more comfortable, safe and efficient – all by using a smart phone as a mobile dashboard.”

Family Lifestyle systems are a good example of new intelligent home applications. Currently being rolled out by service providers in Europe and China, a Family Lifestyle System is an application in the cloud that connects all the sentrollers (the sensors, the actuators and the controllers, actually all the devices) in the Smart Home. The Family Lifestyle System continuously collects all the data in the home from all the devices, and then learns what the normal patterns in the home are. When do the home’s residents get up in the morning? What energy are they consuming and when?  When do they  leave and come back? Where are they in the house and when do they need light? This application learns what is “normal”, and therefore also learns what is not normal and can send an alert to a smart phone or integrated social media app when something is not quite right or irregular behavior is detected.
