Community work is a rewarding career – in any language

PRLog - Sep. 25, 2014 - SYDNEY, Australia -- Changing career can be a challenging prospect, especially if you don’t have experience in the new industry you have chosen or if you’re not really sure whether it will be a good fit for you.

To help people in this situation, not-for-profit job site Care Careers has devised a Career Quiz. It’s a fun and simple picture-based quiz that assesses your personality and tells you whether you would be a good fit for disability and community care services.

At this stage more than two hundred thousand people have taken the quiz, and for many it has been the first step in a rewarding career in which they can really make a difference.

Until recently, the Career Quiz has only been available in English though English is not the first language of approximately one quarter of the workforce in Australian disability and community care services. Workers from CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds are particularly valued; recognised for the diversity of experience and skills that they bring to the workplace.

To show how much the sector welcomes workers from CALD backgrounds, Care Careers has just launched its quiz in ten new languages – Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Nepalese, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Vietnamese. Now speakers of all these languages can get a personality profile and possible career match in minutes.

The new multilingual quiz has been an immediate success, with many quizzes taken in the newly-available languages. This has started all sorts of conversations about careers in the sector, with more languages to be added in due course.

Care Careers Project Manager Mike Field said that the industry is growing at a rapid pace:

“Disability and community care will be one of the fastest growing sectors of the workforce over the next five years.  It is hoped that this new development will encourage more and more people from CALD backgrounds to think about joining the industry.”
