National Pilot Program Tests New Roommate-Matching Service for Women Over 50
PRLog - Jul. 23, 2014 - PORTLAND, Ore. -- Roommates4Boomers announces that it has entered into an agreement with The Transition Network (TTN), a national organization for women over 50, to conduct a nationwide pilot testing program of the new roommate-matching service for women 50 and over. TTN first conducted a test run of Roommates4Boomers among the members of TTN-HOME, a special program of its San Francisco Bay Area chapter for older women exploring housing options. The success of the early test led TTN to expand the pilot program to the entire country. Roommates4Boomers has agreed to offer free memberships for three months to all TTN members who participate in the pilot test.

Longtime businesswoman Karen Venable developed the idea for a roommate-matching service when she found herself single and living alone at age 55, after more than 20 years of marriage. For a time, she moved in with her good friend Carol Buckle, and the companionship and support helped her tremendously through a difficult time. This experience brought home to Karen how important women friends were to her well-being, and she started to think about ways that women her age could come together for friendship and support in shared housing, whether they had a best friend nearby or not. Her research uncovered very few housing/roommate-sharing services for women of the Baby Boom Generation. She saw a huge void to be filled. Many friends had already experienced success with online dating services and agreed that a roommate matching service for women over 50 was a great idea. She began development of Roommates4Boomers a year ago, and launched the website in May 2014.

Roommates4Boomers is much like eHarmony, using a detailed profile system and sophisticated sorting algorithm to match women with similar preferences, attitudes, tastes, and habits. Women who show a high degree of compatibility have the ability to contact one another through the membership site and explore house-sharing possibilities. With a sleek user-friendly design, Roommates4Boomers has brought the roommate/home share experience for Boomer women into the tech-connected era.  For all visitors to the site, the service is free until a match is found and a member wants to make contact with her potential roommate. After that, the cost is only $29.95 per month.
