PRLog - Jul. 20, 2014 - SYDNEY, Australia -- Sydney has wrestled the crown away from Melbourne as the food capital of Australia, according to the country’s largest online restaurant review awards.
The People’s Choice Awards – voted by users of leading online restaurant reservations website Dimmi.com.au – saw 42 out of the country’s Top 100 restaurants coming from New South Wales. Second place was awarded to Victoria with 37 winners, followed by Queensland with a total of 12 and Perth with 7 winners.
The online awards were determined by over 250,000 Dimmi.com.au reviews submitted by verified diners in the last 12 months – the largest of its kind in Australia.
Despite Sydney restaurants dominating the Top 100 list, the country’s top restaurant in the Dimmi People’s Choice Awards went to Victoria restaurant Fabulous Fine Food. New South Wales eateries Sixpenny and Bah-BQ Brazilian Grillwere voted second and third best, respectively.
Fabulous Fine Food restaurant, which serves modern Australian cuisine and is located in McKinnon, was also voted best for service and best for dining in the People’s Choice Awards online poll.
Stevan Premutico, CEO of Dimmi, said: “We collected over a quarter of a million verified reviews and ratings from Dimmi diners who have booked and eaten at our partner restaurants. They told us the good, along with the bad, and helped us to determine Australia’s most loved restaurants.
“It’s important to us that a recommendation for a restaurant isn’t just one person’s opinion, it comes from hundreds of thousands of diners.
“The recurring theme is one of perceived value for money but that doesn’t mean cheap necessarily. The experience needs to deliver a real wow-moment, whether it is a place that is best for views or a local gem that just understands a simple menu that hits the mark. It’s clear that consumers want to be inspired and every dining experience really matters.”
The online poll revealed the best Sydney restaurants to be located in the CBD, with a total of 6 award winners out of the 42 New South Wales restaurants. Melbourne is home to the best restaurants in Victoria, according to the poll, with a total of 10 out of 37 award winners.
