Associa’s Canyon Gate Well-Versed on New Homeowner’s Association Laws

Canyon Gate, an Associa company, brings its homeowner’s association board members and community members up to speed about recent changes in the law and other valuable information.

More than 60 participants took part in the seminar held at the Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque on April 9 and luncheon at Canyon Gate’s home office in Albuquerque the following afternoon. Seminar attendees included HOA board members, community members, local realtors and interested citizens.

“The purpose and the goal for both events was to educate these parties on the changes that the state legislature has put forth and how it affects the community management industry as a whole,” says Canyon Gate Chief Executive Officer, Kim Corcoran. “Also, it was an opportunity to discuss a variety of other topics and how they affect both the community management industry and the real estate industry.”

The event was led by Associa’s Senior Vice President of External Affairs, Andrew Fortin, who has worked as an advocate for homeowners associations for close to a decade and who is a foremost expert in the field of law pertaining to community association management. He also discussed topics such as what boards can do to make their communities compliant with new requirements, ways to deal with difficult situations with residents, and how to work together as stewards of communities to ensure all residents feel represented.

Organizers say the event was a huge success as a forward-thinking discussion between community association professionals and realtors dealing with areas of common concern and informative to all attendees about understanding the role and benefits of HOAs in the housing market.
