Gordon McLeod Named Publisher of Newsday Media Group

Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE:CVC) today announced that Gordon McLeod has been appointed publisher of Newsday Media Group, effective April 1, 2014.

Mr. McLeod will be responsible for leading all of Newsday Media Group’s outlets, which include Newsday, Newsday.com, amNewYork, amny.com, exploreLI.com and a large group of weekly shopper publications. In this role, he will provide oversight of editorial, digital and business operations, further strengthening product engagement with readers across multiple platforms and connecting advertisers with the marketplace. Additionally, he will oversee Newsday Connect, the company’s digital solutions group serving Long Island’s small-to-medium sized businesses.

Mr. McLeod succeeds Fred Groser, who in 2013 announced his plan to retire. Mr. McLeod will report to Cablevision’s Senior Executive Vice President, Strategy Brian Sweeney.

Mr. McLeod joins Newsday Media Group following an extensive career in the media industry. Most recently, he was President of Krux, a technology company that delivers cloud-based data solutions to publishers and marketers. At Krux, he was responsible for global sales, client solutions, business development and marketing to clients that included some of the nation’s leading media and marketing organizations. From 2006 to 2010, he worked at News Corp.’s Dow Jones & Company as President of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network where he oversaw worldwide digital, classified, video and mobile products, revenue and operations for WSJ.com, MarketWatch, Barron’s, SmartMoney and allthingsD. Prior to that, Mr. McLeod held executive roles at CBS News, Grey Entertainment and Time Inc.

He has served on numerous media-industry boards, including Yieldex, the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), Online Publishers Association (OPA), Google Publishers Advisory Council and FiLife, a joint venture between Dow Jones and Interactive Corp. (IAC).

Mr. McLeod holds an A.B. in political economy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a M.A. in public policy from Harvard University.
