PRLog - Oct. 23, 2013 - SYDNEY, Australia -- The current fires in New South Wales are affecting a number of communities in these regions and are likely to affect a significant number of people over the next few weeks and months.  Significant damage to houses, businesses and infrastructure will impact a number of people.

As a consequence  La Trobe Financial has announced a support package to assist its customers  who have been  affected  by the fires. Assistance  will be provided to borrowers who have suffered a reduction in income due to the impact of the fires, or their property has been damaged as a result of the fires.

La Trobe Financial’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Brian Ford said “it is important to support our community during such a crisis and we have therefore put together a Hardship Assistance Team to make the necessary assessments and assist the community.”

There are also a number of borrowers affected where the security property is not in the disaster area. Consideration will also be given to borrowers whose property is undamaged, but as they derive their income from the area their ability to service the loan may be hampered.

Postpone loan repayments for up to 3 months

Borrowers may request to postpone loan repayments for up to 3 months. Postponement of a loan repayment means that the loan repayment due on the respective payment day will be capitalised in the loan balance.  Non payment of the loan repayment for the agreed term will not constitute arrears or a default under the mortgage.

Applications can be made for assistance to the Hardship Assistance Team. Each situation will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Most requests for hardship assistance will require the completion of our standard hardship assistance application forms however due to the potential dislocation of the applicants, borrowers may apply for Express Assistance where one month’s assistance is provided without the requirement to complete forms provided they reside in an affected area.

Any requests for assistance should be directed to Ellen Mowat or in her absence the Hardship Assistance Team on our Toll Free Customer Services Number 1-800-620-639.

Alternatively requests for assistance may be made by email to our dedicated email address hardshipassist@latrobefinancial.com.au, by facsimile to (03) 5177 1727 or in writing to PO Box 403 TRARALGON VIC 3844.
