U.S. stock market payout found in consumer staples

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- While the S&P 500 Index's seven-month streak of gains came to a halt in October, the consumer staples sector continued higher, up for an eighth consecutive month for the best streak among the index's 10 industry groups.
